It took a while to get this blog up and going. Boy, it's been a busy few weeks, but this I HAD to share. In our 2nd showing of the best of marketing and branding in our local digs, EB & A came together with The Hudson Reporter, Ganache Cafe and PNC Bank to talk "Brand Stories", a.k.a, B.S. (that's only if you want to abbreviate it.)

The results, you ask?
40 inspired and motivated business owners. Comments were positive and uplifting and once again, we see the value that marketing and brand equity and what they mean to our business and our prospects.

Renaissance Pilates Builds its Web Abs and Then Some...

For nearly 5 years we've been the marketing and PR component for Renaissance Pilates in Hoboken NJ. We have seen a positive, steady incline in the success of business owner and founder, Danielle Buccellato since we met and began working together. Her secret (we think) is sincerity, knowledge and passion for what she believes in. In this case, it's the Renaissance way of thinking outside the box. Danielle now has over 40 weekly class options and hosts one of the most popular bar methods ever created (yes, we helped to launch Xtend too, but wow to Renaissance for being the first to implement on the East Coast).

On Wednesday, we'll celebrate Renaissance's web re-launch as well as a new email newsletter and the design of four new pieces of corporate collateral. Included is this new web video we mastered for her to stand out amongst her competitors in Hoboken as the peak source for one of the greatest keys to bringing in new clients, the 4 week workshop series. Even better yet, she doesn't need to worry much about keeping clients, as many of them are devotees forever to her brand. She's done quite the amazing job and we're extremely proud of Danielle's success.

EB & A Goes Down Under with our Colleagues -The Ausies

This week EB&A was contacted by the world renowned Sydney Opera House, announcing their upcoming My Mutation Online Dance Competition. This week gendance is highlighting this very special event, calling all dancers to participate. EB&A and gendance are urging dancers to show off their moves, and get in the running to win an expenses paid trip to Sydney, Australia. All dancers have to do is interpret and perform a given starter solo, choreographed by Kate Champion, and then boogie twenty seconds further in their own unique style. The starter can be obtained from www.youtube.com/sydneyoperahouse. Entries are to be submitted online via YouTube. Champion told us this: “I was attracted to My Mutation [because of the chance] to see who might be out there in the ether with qualities that for some inexplicable reason make you unable to take your eyes off them.”

What a smart contest. We're also launching a gendance specific dance contest next week. It MUST be that time of year.

Sherry Sexton Gives Us Some Love

We're already in love with this client and our, ahem, publisher. Sherry Sexton is an amazing Life Coach and we're honored to be chosen in her new book about 25 successful entrepreneurs. (EB & A is chapter 9). Today, I am featuring a glowing testimonial of our work. Not only were we chosen to be published in her book, but we were hired to help Sherry devise smart marketing and promotional plans for the launch. Dance Has Met Baseball-Its Official. Do the Wave.

The stands of baseball will never be the same. In addition to the "wave" you might see some popping, locking and boogie-in on down from fans in the crowd. That's because Lou Jacobs CEO of Statewide Pro, a consultant for Pro sports teams, has created one of the biggest and most influential ideas. To bring baseball to dance. And if you didn't think fans would be into it, think again. Currently, on the local/regional level, the Trenton Thunder and Lakewood Blue Claws, but more importantly linked with the affiliate organization of the Yankees and Phillis, groups of dancers have begun to dance before the fireworks at special games. Teams get four dance performances per season and some may last through the playoffs for extra cheering. The press release was announced at EB & A yesterday to highlight client ICON Dance Complex and its co-founder, Beth Hubela who has been deemed one of the most appropriate choreographers to help out in this historic mission.

EB & A and gendance hittin' up the Gaga Ooh La La

EB & A's gendance email mag drove its vette to the shores of Atlantic City NJ this Fourth of July to hit it up with a bang! No, we were not sitting at the machines banging on the opportunity to get the triple blazing sevens, we were at the Lady Gaga Concert. The full story can be found in Thursday, July 8th's edition of gendance, but today we wanted to give you the news that not only does gendance benefit with the press story, but EB & A clients do as well.

What we learned at Gaga (and from her, besides the fact that she totally kicked Obama's ___ in Facebook fans, as well as Starbucks and the new Twilight) is that this girl is a marketing machine. It's natural for her team to emotionally connect with her fans.

This Madonna-eque dancer/singer is 100X pie of a performer. She got up on stage and laser targeted her messaging to the gay and lesbian community positing an enormous roar. CHECK. (spoke directly to my big fans in that demo). She also took the liberty of creatively naming her fans "little monsters". CHECK (creating that almost personal emotional connection with buyers). Yes, we do the same thing calling our gendance audience gendancers and GFF's which we take great pride that we're alike to Gaga's mastery in marketing, but there were so many tid bits that we picked up that we'll be hailing towards our clientele. Yesterday, we were pleased to launch a NEW Campaign that we've been dying to announce for the past several weeks. It was so hard to keep the excitement within the confounds of our office. So yesterday was a big day for us, but even bigger for client, DancePlug and their spokespersons, The Beat Freaks. The campaign, Spark Your Career, is leading off with a stellar video that explains the contest for the summer. Strategically aligned with sponsors that will bring the campaign to new audiences, Spark Your Career is set to educate and inspire the dance community around the world showcasing a free way for artists to put their resume together on something that costs WAY less (yes free) than a website. DancePlug.com is the new vision of the future and we're more than pleased to have been a part of their rebranding efforts and the creators of the Campaign, Spark Your Career. With the rise of our business entering its 5th year, we have cut the ribbon towards the town of Hoboken in which we reside and work. On June 23rd, we hosted our very first Coffee Talk at Ganache Cafe with sponsors, speakers and over 40 guests. The momentum that we created has been building at our office and lots of creative ideas are flowing. Meetings with new clients, followed by new plans for businesses in town and our first ever Rotary Club visit is in session. The advantages of small business are bountiful, but when it comes to a personal testimonial that you can feel proud of because you changed the way they saw their business and are now making leaps and bounds to strive forward in a new light, there is unmeasurable appreciation. Special Thanks to Amber Moelter, who took the time to write in about our power session and how it positively affected her way of branding ALM Talkies.

FIRST A LITTLE HISTORY

I have been in contact with Elizabeth Barry & Associates for about a year now and little did I know that it would result in such a fantastic relationship. It all came together organically, which is my favorite way of working. I contacted Elizabeth Barry after learning about her weekly newsletter gendance, which I knew I wanted to be a part of because it was cutting edge performing arts news, and with dance and music in my feature film "Dirty Step Upstage" I wanted exposure to her audience. Several months and several gendance profiles later I produced a very successful iPod contest video in association with gendance and thus our relationship flourished.

NOW THE PRAISE

After seeing what EB&A has done for other small businesses, I brought them onboard with the hope that it would clarify my professional goals and help me expand my independent media production company ALM Talkies into the go-to brand for edgy, yet economical video production needs. It's almost alarming how much transformation my company has experienced simply with their 5 hour power session.

Elizabeth Barry sat down with me and evaluated my website and company mission statement against my desires for the future of the company. She targeted discrepancies between what I was presenting and what I wanted in a remarkably straight-forward fashion. Truth be told, I was amazed how painless the whole process was. Before our sessions together, I was having trouble balancing my needs between projecting my website in a professional direction and supporting the international fanbase I have garnered from my background as a performer.

I had everything backwards. Of course I needed to clarify my business needs before I could redesign my web presence. Over those 5 hours EB&A refined the pages of notes I supplied - simplifying my life! My team was too close to see what Elizabeth Barry's objective eye could and I will be forever grateful for the resolve I feel in moving forward with my website and company, ALM Talkies.

This evening, we were pleased to align with the Oxygen Network to bring Times Square to a new level. Clients, Beth and GEO Hubela gave the crowd amongst Broadway- a performance to dance their " " off. After two weeks of collaborating via phone, we brought our ideas to fruition on stage for the NYC Kick Off for the Dance Your Ass Off Tour, (or as they call it dance your a-star-star off) It's been a pleasure working with such inspiring colleagues such as Stephanie Rosman and GEO and Beth to bring events like this to the forefront. So proud of the ICONic dancers, including Zan Bongiovi, the 2009-2010 ICON of the Year, The Spellman Sisters who were in from Los Angeles to perform, and their peers.We love our clients.

At EB & A, we're not shy to the pageant industry being that we're the marketing team at ANTSO, America's National Teenager Scholarship Organization. When we were asked to go behind the scenes of the choreography of Miss Kansas, while we were in LA, we jumped at the chance. The beauty is... we'll never turn down an opportunity to see Gregg Russell dance in person. This time, we were watching him choreograph on the spot with Barry Youngblood, Angie Carter and Denise Bailey.Their choreography will be exposed in this week's trend section in gendance as well as in the LIVE Miss Kansas pageant coming up this summer. Boy, are we PROUD of our clientele. (As you can see, I live vicariously through my clients that are dancers...)

Straight Up Now... EB & A and gendance hit the Hollywood scene this June to visit with clients, Gregg Russell, DancePlug, our friends from the Michael Jackson Tribute Portrait and to relax with buddy Michelline Coonrod from Pointe Work Designs. We also had a blast with Jim Keith discussing his new agency, The Movement, and we quote: "Elizabeth, since you ran my article in gendance about The Movement, I've signed 10 new clients including big names, thank you." We were more than honored to hear that the results of our email magazine which is by far leading the way in the dance niche right now, is making strides for editorial as well as advertisers.

We love our LA trips and were sad to come home, especially after a fabulous affair at Level 3 in Hollywood for Gina Starbuck's Art 4 Life where we got to hang with friends including Benjamin Allen from the Dance Dish. Course we made our rounds with Paula Abdul with another client, which whom we adore, Drew Phillip from Celebrity.

Soon, we yearn for a bi-coastal life. This LA/NY thing is getting way too good. Congratulations to Gina Starbuck and her talented performers from this year's Art4Life.

When you're a marketing consultant and email magazine publisher, you get to work with some pretty creative and amazing individuals. Over time, many of them are afar and when you finally meet them face to face, it's a blessing. Today, I'd like to give a big shout out to Dena and Jenna Spellman, whom I finally got to meet this past weekend at ICON's end of year performance as well as at the Astaire Awards last night. Bigger shout out to their mom whom travels with them from LA to NJ/NY. Her name is Rose.

Kenny Ortega and the Astaire Awards are SO NEWSworthy

I'm not sure what's better... just being able to be in the presence of the Astaire family and Kenny Ortega or being there and representing the elite choreographer that was the "hit" of the night. I'm sure its the later. Last night EB & A and gendance took the stage at the prestigious Astaire Awards to await the performances, awards and stellar choreo and dancers that would tread the Marley. Although we are partial, our client, GEO Hubela, of ICON Dance Complex won the hearts of the audience with his "surprise" performance for Kenny Ortega (yes, they're good friends) when he created a "Newsies" piece mixed with traditional Broadway and hip hop. Kids merely in 4th grade along with GEO's ICONic crew from Randy Jackson's America's Best Dance Crew were the evening's most rewarding gift of energy. Tonight, I sat amongst the "fabulous" at the Minskoff Theatre where the BEST of Broadway came together for the BC/EFA East Bonnet Competition. I am so proud of long time, client, R.Evolucion Latina for taking the stage tonight with Bombayo, Andrea Sousa, students and activists. The new CD we're producing is going to have such a profound effect. (If you notice... the ending song to the event was an inspirational one? I think we're on the right track, gang!)

Mad Props to My Mentors...

Tonight, I'm giving rise to my former employer Barbara Pogorelc, owner of Crystal Pineapple in Cape Cod, where I worked for a good amount of time. If you didn't know this, I got my start in the career world after leaving UMASS, Amherst (4.0 of course) and then fleeing to Cape Cod. (Hey, I was 21 and in love.) I began my career in publishing at Cape Cod Life Publications. Advertising Coordinator, Sales rep, marketing coordinator and soon after 3 years, I knew how to do it all in the magazine world. So, I left and began working for Barbara. After a day behind the register, she KNEW I wasn't meant for that job, so they bumped me up within hours to to their Marketing position and I began an ebay store for them (when it was new and very popular) and designed ads for mags, newspapers and more. What a treat it was to work for Barbara and Bob on the Cape.

To date, I still visit them in the Cape and in Florida at their new digs. Barbara recently started a new blog in which she gave rise to me... well, right back at you, mentor. I love you, respect you and thank you for your wisdom.

Last weekend, I gathered my team of film experts to embark on a new venture for EB & A and our growth this year. This project is something I've had on my mind for about a year now. (Inspired by watching Seth Godin on Ted Talks and perhaps the Wine Library.com founder.) I wanted to share my insight and client experiences and success stories to help business owners realize that "change" into the next generation CAN BE fun, it can be easy and they can get help in making new projects work for their benefit.

EB & A will launch My Brand is Better Than Yours in early May, along with our new email newsletter and announcement of our web re-launch to clientele. The progress that we've made in five years in helping brands reinvent themselves and assisting new brands to launch is powerful. We'd like to share our young energy with the small to mid size business owners in our circle... the ideas that help us help clients make it to the top.

We've already started a Facebook group for the brand and will be incorporating clever tactics to see its growth. The purpose is to inspire. Larger brands should take notes. A good healthy brand is something that's new and keeps changing with the times.

Geo Hubela is an innovator, it's only right that he shares his talent and schedule with the world that wants to follow his every move (literally and figuratively) His fans re-create his choreography-even at the young age of 5 or 6, these kids can really move. And for the students that learn from him at competitions and conventions, he needed a path, an online vehicle to keep inspiring them after the event weekends. We're Motivated... are you?!

This week, we had a lot to celebrate, but one thing that we'd like to make known in our celebrations of dancing around the office is the little known fact that "personal phone calls to say thank you" are alive and well. Yesterday was Earth Day. We righteously revealed creative ways to celebrate the day in gendance with mentions to our legend and lost idol, Michael Jackson and his gifted videos about saving the world, and a story about the eco-friendly products from a brand we met at the Go Green Expo last month. The company is called Motivators and we found their recent email blast as a smart reminder to tell our audience of over 20,000 about their way-eco-cool pens, seed paper business cards and Elephant jotters. So, the amazing part was when we received a friendly call from Sarah this morning from the Motivators company. She personally called to thank us for the recognition and to us, that's beautiful and it's a reminder to say, "Pick up the phone". An email wasn't enough for her, so she called. Today, we celebrated a big win. We didn't really win anything except for the inner notion of knowing how to be persistent, how to make friends with publicists and colleagues and following through. We first worked with the Seventeen magazine group a year ago this April. Today represents a year's worth of kind, communicative emails that showed value from EB & A and what we stand for and with that... came our gendance mention on their site.

In fact, I prepared for this moment. When I got the call from the publicists for the Savvy/Jonas Group interview, I put aside questions "just" for Seventeen magazine" knowing that I would pitch to them. If it worked, it was a score, if not, I still had my interview for gendance.

In the end, it worked and they loved the creative pitch regarding where the young teens would be in five years and we have consistent traffic and new fans from a new base of clientele to the very product that we care so deeply about and publish every week-gendance.

Over the last few years, the number of opportunities available to dance writers has declined sharply, as newspaper ad revenue from dance and other arts organizations has all but vanished. As a result, fewer and fewer voices - writers and choreographers alike, have the opportunity to make themselves heard. While new media gives everyone the opportunity to enter the discussion, how can writers establish personal branding when they can no longer benefit from the credibility of a newspaper banner?

The purpose of this town hall is to discuss strategies and ideas designed to increase paid writing opportunities for established and emerging dance critics and writers, while empowering audiences to discover to the broadest possible spectrum of dance art. A newly released Media Survey of executives at Fortune 500 companies announced that email is regarded as the digital channel that worked BEST last year.

Email got the most cited mentions including:

"reaching a targeted audience" -84%

"generating high-quality leads" -74%

"converting leads to sales" -63%

"measuring and understanding our audience" -60%

"retaining existing customers" -57%

"digitally transacting with customers" -54%

Elsewhere in the survey, 67% of respondents said they'll be "leveraging online video this year."

Geo Hubela from ICON Dance Complex in Englishtown, NJ and founder of the ICON brand, choreographed an exclusive piece for his dancers for a personal benefit/Charity Event this past weekend.

The benefit was for Tania Rodriguez who is battling Lymphoma & Maritza Rivera who is battling Leiomyosarcoma. Held at Our Lady of Grace Bingo Hall in Hoboken NJ. Sponsored by HOBOKEN P.B.A. Local # 2, GEO Hubela & the ICONic Dance Company provided a Live performance and entertained the crowd who attended.Island Def Jam artist and ICON dancer, Ashley Loren sang a moving rendition of HERO by Mariah Carey and Odysy also provided Live Entertainment with an exciting performance.

Cliche Cosmetics added a surprise to the mix by donating two of their DCF PINK Kits to the girls including blush, lip gloss and eye shadows in the shade of light pink. Being a full service marketing company says a lot and means a lot.
